Page 9 of Mafia’s Angel

“What do you mean, love?” Alastair looked up at her.

“I was told that Martin was showing Angelica her room when the maid came out of yours. Martin said the woman lookedsmug, and he could tell it upset Angelica, but she tried to hide it.”

“How do you find out so much?” Duncan asked her.

Beth smiled down at Alastair. “I’m quiet, and people tend to overlook me, so I hear all kinds of things I’d rather not.”

Duncan almost smiled at the blush that covered her face.

“So, what are you going to do about Angelica?” Alastair asked.

“I’ll be talking to her.”

“Maybe you shouldn’t if you don’t want anything to happen between the two of you.”

Duncan shook his head. “But I do. I’m still trying to get over what that bitch ex did to me.”

“You know that Angelica isn’t anything like Debra, right?” Alastair asked.

“Yes. I’m aware.”

“Then I’ll leave it in your hands,” Alastair said.

“How long will she be staying?”

Alastair shrugged. “That’s up to you.”

“Why is she here?”

“That’s not up to me to tell you. Maybe you can get it out of her.”

Duncan’s brows pinched together. He didn’t like the sound of that.

“Go on to breakfast. Beth and I will be there shortly.”

“All right. Thanks for telling me what I’m up against, Beth.”

“She cares, Duncan.”

“How would you know that?” Duncan asked her.

“Because she cried a lot last night. Her eyes were swollen and red, and the jealousy she tried to hide was apparent to me. There’s a chance I could be wrong, though.”

God, he hoped not. “Okay, thanks.” He walked out of the office and into the dining room to see his angel sitting betweenher sisters and ignoring him. He sat across from her so he could watch her.

The maids came in to take orders, and all the while, he watched her. Out of the corner of his eyes, he saw the maid he fucked glaring at him and knew he’d have to take care of her sooner rather than later.

When Angelica was done, she stood and excused herself, telling her sisters she’d be right back down.

He followed her so she couldn’t see him, and when she was in her room with the door shut, he walked up to it and waited.

It was only a minute before it opened, and fortunately, she was distracted by her phone because she didn’t see him until he pushed her back into her room and shut and locked the door.

“What in the hell are you doing?” she asked.

“We have a few things to talk about.”

“No, we don’t. Now, please get out of the way. My sisters and Beth are waiting.”
