Page 108 of Coveted Justice

Brian, his campaign manager, waved to Tanner and Maddie, motioning for them to join him. He was standing next to the television and holding up his phone.

“I just got a message that they’re about to call the race,” he said. “I’m going to turn up the volume so everyone can hear.”

This was it. Maddie reached for Tanner’s hand, their fingers laced together. Whatever was on the other side, they’d face as a team.

With the volume zoomed up, the happy news anchor was saying that the Associated Press had called the election.

“The next governor of our great state is…Tanner Marks. He was behind in the polls until a few months ago, but he’s really pulled ahead in these last several weeks. Let’s go to our reporter on the scene at the Marks’ campaign party and see if we can get a statement.”

He’d won.

With this woman by his side, there was truly nothing they couldn’t do.
