“Yes.” This time he looked up and their gazes locked. “I…like you, Amanda.”

She almost wanted to clutch her chest, sure she was having a coronary episode even though she was young and healthy. Her heart was currently slamming against her ribs and she was sure that not only Josh could hear it but all of Springwood.

He was waiting for her to say something. He’d been brave, and now it was her turn.

“I…like you, too.” Clearing her tight throat, she pressed on. Better to find out now than later. She needed to know what all of this meant. “Dinner tonight? Is this…a…date?”

Shoving his hands into the pockets of his blue jeans, Josh rocked on his heels nervously.

“I was thinking…yes. Yes, this would be a date. I mean…if you were okay with that.”

“Yes, I’d be okay with that. It sounds nice.”

Josh’s smile was widening, his shoulders relaxing at her answer.

“So…it’s a date?”

“It’s a date,” she echoed. “I’m…looking forward to it.”

“So am I.” He glanced over his shoulder toward the door to the office. “How about I go get our lunch and we can eat right here? I’d like to show you what I’ve been doing with the database.”

“I’d like to see that.” She reached into her purse for some cash but Josh was already waving it off.

“I’ve got this. It’s my turn. I won’t be gone long.”

He hurried out of the office and down the block while Amanda reminded herself to breathe in and out. When he was out of sight, her entire body sagged in her chair. She was suddenly exhausted as if she’d run a marathon.

She had a date tonight. With Josh.

And with any luck, they’d kiss again.
