She inhaled and frowned. Allthis time, Milton smelled like a human.

This time, he didn’t. There wasno human smell on him.

He fired the gun, only, to her surprise, it didn’t send out metal bullets.

Amelia screamed as the wooden bulletembedded in her shoulder. The pain was instant, and with the force of the shot, she collapsed to the floor, cupping her shoulder.

“But I am going to hurt you a little bit. It will help me to understand, actually. I know metal bullets are a lot more painful, but wooden ones, they’re easier to heal around.”

“You broke my leg, and now you’re shooting at me.”

“I know what you are,” Milton said, screaming the words. “I know you’re a wolf, or a shifter. You’re going to tell me how to get rid of it.”

Perspiration dotted her forehead. “How to get rid of what?” Now that she was fully awake, Amelia couldn’t quite understand.

Her leg was broken, and she was going to need to heal it, otherwise, her body was going to heal with it in the wrong place, which would then mean it would have to be rebroken to fix it.

That wasn’t pleasant. No, that was even more painful. Even for a wolf.

Now with a wooden bullet in her shoulder, she was also at risk of losing blood.

“This!”

Amelia watched in surprise as Milton started to change. He wasn’t quite a wolf, but also not quite human either.

From the way he was behaving, she knew Milton hadn’t been a wolf from birth. Not like her or the pack, or most of the wolves she knew.

This was different.

Milton screamed, and his head shook from side to side at the same time he slammed his palm against his head so violently before he finally brought whatever he was back under control.

What the fuck was he?

Amelia was shocked.

This was … she had never seen anything like this before.

He stared at her. “Yousee it now?”

“See what? Doctor Milton, I have no idea what is going on,” she said.

Tears fell from her eyes, and she watched him, knowing that he wasn’t just human. He was something else.

There was no way he was part wolf, was he? Shewould’ve scented it. Known it.

“You’re going to be the one to tell me what I am. I’ve watched you, Amelia. I know you’re not human either. None of those people you run around with are. I’ve seen you. The Poison Wolves MC. That’s what you are, isn’t it? Go around hurting people. What did you plan to do to that dog? Eat him? I bet I saved him the misery of growing up with someone like you.”

“You bit Buster?” she asked.

“Yeah, I bit him. You and your little fuck buddy were closing in on me. Couldn’t have that.Needed you to be distracted.”

“Was it you that day? Outside of my house?” she asked.

If Milton had been changing into whatever he was, there was no way she’d have been able to recognize him.

“I needed to know what I am. Figured you’d know seeing as I sawyou change.” Milton lifted the gun and pointed it at her. “You know, I’ve been shooting myself for a short time now, and I heal. Not perfectly, but it seems I heal from most wounds, and I’m guessing you do. Will you heal if I shoot you in the head?”

“Milton, no, I won’t. Please, stop. You have to stop this. You have to tell me what happened to you, so I can figure it out. You’re a human right. Born a human?” she asked.
