Page 59 of Hard for You

“What can I do? What can I tell you that is going to make any of this okay for you?” Alpha asked.

Wolfegripped the back of his neck. “I don’t know. Be a friend.”

“I am being a friend. I’m not going to allow you to live in the clouds.” Alpha slapped him on the back.

This wasn’t any comfort to him at all. Not even slightly. In fact, this was starting to pisshim off. He didn’t say anything though, just kept walking until they came toward the smell that intensified.

Wolfe froze as he saw a veterinary practice up ahead.

Ryker and Gunner had moved on a bit but came jogging back toward them.

“Her scent is coming from the vet’s,” Ryker said.

Wolfe continued to stare at the building, wondering if she had lost track of time, when all of a sudden, they heard it, a scream.

Amelia’s scream, mixed in with a growl unlike anything Wolfe had ever heard.

They didn’t have a plan, but right now, they didn’t have time to make one. They all took off, he and Alpha taking the lead and crashing their way through the door.

There was noone around. Everything was clear. Not a damn thing out of place.

Then, he heard it. Amelia’s sobs. His woman was crying.

Alpha headed around the back, and they came to a locked door. One tug, and it was open, leading them down into a basement, and then he saw it, the carnage.

There was a cage with the door hangingoff the hinges.

Blood was inside the cage, coating the walls, and then he looked down. Amelia was in a puddle of it. Her leg was at an odd angle. More blood came from the wound in her shoulder.

She was panting. Beside her was a body. Not quite human. Not quite wolf. Something in between.

Amelialifted, and he saw claw marks down her cheek. There was another set across her front, and it had torn the hoodie she wore.

She looked … a mess.

“Alpha?” she asked. “I … I don’t know what he is. I, er, I usedthis vet, but I promise I didn’t bite him.” She was going into shock.

Wolfe went to her, and she flinched away from him. “Don’t touch me.”

“Amelia,” Alpha said, withEnzo coming in close.

“He broke my leg, and I think, I think it’s already healing,” she said. She swiped at her face, smearing more blood over it. “You’re going to have to break it.”

“I know,” Alpha said. “This is going to cause you a great deal of pain.”

Amelia nodded. “I know.”

He stared at her, shocked, amazed. This was a woman he claimed to be weak.

She physically shook, but for the most part, was keeping herself together. “You have to break it now,” she said.

Alpha nodded. “Wolfe, Enzo, holdher down.”

“No, not Wolfe. He can’t hold me down. Never.” She wouldn’t even look at him.

“Draco, hold her.”

Wolfe couldn’t dothis. He watched as Amelia tensed up and Alpha put his hands on her.
