“Yes. I’ll do everything in my power to make her happy for the rest of her life.”

The girls looked shocked. He couldn’t see Cat’s face because she was behind the others.

“Come on, Larkin,” Darian said and held his hand out to her.

Larkin turned to hug Cat. “Are you okay for us to leave?”

“Yes, go. I don’t want you guys in trouble.”

“I hope I get to see you soon. Call me if you need me,” Larkin said.

“I … I’m not sure where I’ll be.”

“She’ll be with me,” King said.

The other girls hugged Cat and Corey before they walked to their daddies.

Darian patted his shoulder. “We’ll talk later. Take the condo for however long you need it.”

King hugged him. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

King waited until the elevator was going down before focusing all of his attention on Cat. “I talked to your cousin today.”

Her head jerked his way, but she didn’t say anything.

“He was pretty brutal with me.”

Cat sighed. “I’m sorry. He shouldn’t have done that.”

He smiled. “No, I don’t agree. I think I deserved that and much more.”

“I don’t understand.”

“Oh, I’ve done some stupid things in my life, but one of them was not trusting you and letting you explain that day. The second worst one was letting you think I’d take Corey from you.” He hated the suspicion in her expression, but he couldn’t blame her.

“Is there something on the stove?” he asked.

She gasped and ran that way. He noticed how she turned to the side to protect Corey while taking the pan off the stove.

“Here, let me help.”

He took the pan from her. “Where should I put the noodles?”

“They need to be drained. There’s a colander in the sink.”

He did that. “Now what?”

“I made some sauce to go with it.”

“Is there enough for me?” he asked.

“I… Yes, the girls were going to stay and eat.”

He watched her seem to think for a moment.

“Do you want to hold him while I make up some plates?”
