point? I can’t get involved with someone while I’m doing a
job like this.”
“Involved. I couldn’t possibly become involved either.”
Cassia wanted was to tell Adalynn yes. That she could kiss
her. That she wanted her first real kiss to be from someone she
was attracted to. From the most beautiful, exotic, mysterious
woman in the world. That she wanted to do more. That maybe
she’d never wanted anything more in her life. That she wanted
to discover all those parts of herself that she’d only ever
wondered at. She wanted to unlock them all, because at
nineteen, she’d lived in her body for nearly two decades and
had zero clue about what she actually liked.
She knew what she wanted, but she’d been taught denial
and control and that conditioning and training was hard to
break.
“Do you want some wine?” Adalynn changed the subject
abruptly.
Cassia nodded, thinking that perhaps the liquid courage
would be nice. Her two hours would run down and then she’d
be on her own time. Adalynn wouldn’t have paid for it. Maybe
it shouldn’t have, but that did matter to Cassia.
Adalynn opened up the small fridge under the sleek unit that
held the TV and produced a few mini bottles of white wine.
She unscrewed two and set one in front of Cassia. She stared
at the bottle while Adalynn sat back down. She thought that if
she looked at the goddess across from her, she might combust
and forget herself and do something she wasn’t entirely sure
she could see through to the end.
“Are you old enough to be drinking?” Adalynn asked, her
tone even, but gentle.
