Dani grabbed the bag, and when Emily stood, she gathered
their towels next. The apple core ended up getting left behind,
buried in sand.

Dani
What had she been thinking? She’d kissed Emily. Not just
any kiss either. It had rattled everything Dani had ever known.
It had shaken her to her very core, and now some creep had a
photo of it. Of the most intimate, incredible moment of her
life. She couldn’t even find it in herself to wish it hadn’t
happened, even though it would be more convenient.
Emily waited until they were half an hour away from the
city before calling her dad. The phone rang loudly in the
silence of the car. Neither of them had said a thing since they
left the beach.
“Hello?” The male voice that finally answered was deep and
authoritative. “Emily?”
“Dad,” Emily said, her voice soft and full of emotion. Dani
didn’t dare look over at her. Emily was driving and it was
probably best that she concentrate. “Dad, I’m so, so sorry.”
“Where are you? Are you driving?”
“Yes.” Emily swallowed thickly. “Yes, I’m driving.”
Dani glanced over, but all she could see were Emily’s
hands, wrapped in a white-knuckled grasp around the wheel.
“Dad? There’s going to be a photo…”
The line echoed with a drawn-out sigh. “You told us there
would be. This is all part of your plan to make your mother
