“Whatever he has to say, he can say to his lawyer and a judge.” He put a notepad in his briefcase.

I walked over to his desk and slammed his briefcase shut. “Don’t do this, Knight. It’s not right. You saw the way they abused him. You saw the condition he was in when you took him to this facility.”

“Is that what you’re worried about? That he won’t be treated fairly?” Knight placed his hand over mine on his briefcase and smiled at me. “I knew you were a good man, Neely, which is why I was happy to have you on this case.” He rubbed his thumb along my skin. “But he’ll be treated fairly by the justice system. He’ll be assessed to see if he’s fit for trial, and, pending that, the DA’s office will handle the case. Come on, Neely, don’t tell me you’re not relieved to find the man responsible for taking your wife.”

“We still don’t have a body.”

“And you might never. Tell you what…” He removed his hand from mine and dug into the coat of his pocket. He scribbled something on a piece of paper. “There’s nothing more we can do for him. The governor made it clear that he’s supposed to be charged for his crimes.”

I frowned at the address on the paper. Was this where they’d taken him? I wasn’t familiar with the address. “What’s this?”

“If you want to get rid of a bit of frustration, I can make you forget for a night.”

What did he mean? Oh. Oh. My cheeks burned. I cleared my throat. I would never have guessed Knight was into men, much less would be into me. He’d never once acted unprofessionally in all the time we’d worked together. “I think you have the wrong idea. I-I’m straight.”

“Hmm. Even straight guys have a little fun sometimes. Your call. This is the only thing I can offer you, Hunter. I’m sorry, but the kid’s going to be locked up for a while.”

“What about the mother?”

“Now that we know who we are looking for, she’ll be on our wanted list. We’ll find her.”

“So this is it?” They asked for my help in solving the case, which got me close to Cosmo, close enough to care, and then they could push me to the side?

“As far as the case goes, yes. As far as the other, that’s up to you.” He took up his briefcase. “If you’ll excuse me, I have another meeting in an hour, and I need to ensure this place is cleared.”

Knight walked around his desk but stopped next to me, his lips close to my ear. “I know ways to make you forget her, Hunter. And to forget him. I hope you take me up on my offer. It doesn’t have to be anything more than one night of sweaty, hard pounding. You look like you know how to give it rough, and trust me, I can take it.”

He walked out of the room, his footsteps echoing in my head long after he was gone. My mind filled with images of naked, sweaty bodies, firm thighs, rough hands, hairy skin, rippling muscles, and my nostrils flared. I blinked, and the images changed to a soft, pliant body, timid and trusting eyes, cherry red lips and fragile bones.

I swallowed hard. What the hell had come over me? I ignored the tightening in my cock, which had started with Knight’s words. Imagining a naked Cosmo only made it grow further.

Shit. It wasn’t just Cosmo, then. Knight’s words had also filled me with desire, even if it wasn’t as strong as thinking about Cosmo. But none of that mattered. What was important was finding out where they’d taken Cosmo and what I could do to get him out of jail.
