“From now on, let’s remember to be honest and upfront about our feelings. I want our forever honeymoon, Lara. I haven’t given up on our happily ever after. What about you?”

“You’re my forever, Landon.”

It took a day before she was released from the hospital because the sores on her feet were infected and they wanted to keep her under observation. Her parents returned to our condo to sleep because they weren’t allowed to stay after visiting hours. I lay in a chair alongside my wife’s bed, needing to keep close to her, fearing that they could harm her if I’m not nearby.

Danny’s secretly on a mission to find the kidnappers and see who else has been working to assist them in taking my wife. He hasn’t stopped apologizing for the abduction, like it’s his fault, but he’s not in charge of my movements, even if he gave me the suggestion. They were bound to find a way to get to Lara, and that makes me nervous because I don’t doubt there’s a second plan in motion.

We’re resting at home in the condo with her parents down the hall. Tobias came over just before the game to check on her and will be around after it ends to see her again before he has to leave again, but he wants me to hunt them all down, which I will gladly do.

My phone vibrates around three in the morning, but it doesn’t matter because I can’t fucking sleep for shit. It’s a call from Danny. “We got a lead. We’ll have them in custody within the next six hours.”

“I want everyone assisting them. I can’t leave any loose ends. Anyone trying to come at Lara that isn’t nabbed will not hesitate to try again.”

“I understand, but there’s a problem.”

His hesitation makes me a bit concerned. Danny has always been extremely forward and direct. “What’s the problem?”

He sighs, and then finally speaks. “If it’s the person I’m assuming it is, it has just gotten a lot more complicated.”

“What do you mean?”

“It’s your father.” White-hot rage fills my belly as I consider the pain he’s caused and the fact that he had a hand in my wife’s abduction.

“What do you know?”

“We need to sit down and discuss this. I need to be completely sure he’s involved and not just a fall guy.”

“I want to meet in my home office as soon as possible,” I grit out.

“I’m at home, but I can be there shortly.”

“Good, thanks.”

“Landon, what’s going on,” Lara asks softly, sleepily as she stretches.

I walk back to the bed and help her lie back down. She’s not supposed to walk on her feet for the next couple of days at the very least as she heals, so there’s a bucket next to the bed if she wakes up sick. I brush her hair back, looking to see if she’s feeling well. I don’t see any signs of illness. “Just some business stuff. Danny’s on his way here. It’s early morning, so go back to bed, love. Unless you need me to take you to the bathroom.”

She huffs, “No, I’m good. You promised not to lie to me, but I’m too tired to ask right now. I won’t forget this, Mr. Black.”

“Then we’ll talk about it after you rest. That’s the most important thing to me. I want you to be back to normal, and you need to recover. I love you.”

“I love you too.”

“Do you promise?”

“That I love you? Of course.”

“No. That you’ll tell me.”

“I promise.” I kiss her lips softly and then a groan escapes from me because I can’t get enough, so I thrust my hands into her hair and press my tongue inside. “Lara.” I climb back on the bed, forgetting about Danny because all that matters is getting more of my wife. My dick grinds on her pussy through the sheets and our clothes. I push them away, wanting to get closer. We haven’t had sex since the abduction, and I crave my wife more than air.

“Landon, I need you,” she whimpers.

“I know, but you’re too hurt, baby.”

“I’m hurting for you.”
