“Me? Not so much. But do you realize who is going to be looking for me? I mean, I don’t know how much you know… but… you’ve got two mafia families looking for you. Actually, probably three. If you include my family. Three families, Seth. You have the Amatti family. The Doyle family. And then…”

“Am I supposed to be afraid of that?” Seth asks.

“You should. Cullen and Archer will kill you. I won’t be able to stop them either.”

“Like you would stop them.”

“I’m not sure what I would do,” I say. “You still mean something to me. Aside from this kidnapping bullshit.”

Seth snaps his fingers. “You are really good, Jaci.”

“What?”

“Trying to sweeten the pot for me to let you go,” he says. “Trying to lure me in with your words. Can I give you some advice?”

“No.”

“I’m giving it anyway,” he says. “Words don’t mean shit to me. But your body does. Get naked and watch how fast this all turns in your favor.”

“They’re going to fucking kill you!” I scream.

“Like I don’t know that!” Seth yells back. “I know all about Cullen and Archer!”

I swallow hard. “How?”

“Our good buddy Marty told me what I needed to know,” Seth says with a smile.

Now I’m thinking about the night Marty came toDSC.

All those things he said to me.

Then he got his ass kicked by theHeirs.

Holy fuck, was that part of some plan by Marty? By Seth?

“You can’t win this one, Jaci,” Seth says. “Now, am I getting you some new panties or not? Maybe some neon green ones. Maybe a shoestring thong. So it really gets up in there on you.”

“Yeah, nothing makes a woman wetter than a wedgie,” I call out.

Seth laughs. “Damn, Jaci, you’re something special. I’ll be back later.”

“What the fuck, Seth?” I ask. “Are you fucking serious?”

I feel my chin suddenly start to quiver.

“Oh, fuck, Jaci, don’t start crying now,” Seth says. “That definitely won’t work on me.”

He hurries up the basement steps.

I reach for my coffee and take another sip.

I frown.

Then I curl my lip.

I’m not going to fucking cry.

I’m going to finish my coffee.
