Archer has followed me here…
“This is not your territory,” Tocky says again.
“One more word and you’re going to swallow some teeth,” Archer says.
Tocky pushes himself back and climbs to his feet.
He looks around.
He nods.
He has plenty to say but he’s scared of Archer.
Tocky turns and darts toward the back door.
He shoves Fay out of the way.
She topples against the kitchen table and it scratches against the floor.
With Tocky gone, the house is silent.
I slowly look at Archer.
He turns and bolts toward the front door.
“Archer, wait!” I call out.
He tears open the front door.
Even harder than Tocky did.
A second later he’s facing off with Marty.
Marty’s eyes are rolling around in his head.
“You almost got her killed,” Archer says to Marty.
“Yeah,” Marty says.
Before I could say anything, Archer takes a swing at Marty.
I hear the sound of Archer’s fist hitting Marty’s face.
Marty collapses on the porch.
Archer walks off the porch and walks away.
Now I have to see if Marty is dead.
Chapter 34
Iopen the freezer and take out a half empty ice cube tray.
Fay has a shopping bag open, waiting for me to pour the ice into it.
I do so.
Then I refill the ice cube tray and stick it back into the freezer.
