“I want you,” Archer admits. “I want to fuck you, Jaci.”
“Have I pushed you away, Archer?” I ask. “Have I saidno?”
Yes, I know I’m tempting him.
Yes, I sort of think of Cullen.
But I’m single.
I’m not with anyone.
And maybe Cullen’s kind hesitation is Archer’s perfect opportunity.

Archer steps away from me.
He hands me my guitar back.
Then he walks away.
I find myself shaking.
I turn my head.
This time as Archer walks away, I see him reach up and run his hand through his hair.
I swallow hard.
The cool October air is now cold.
My teeth chatter for more than one reason.
Something is happening here.
Something with Cullen.
Something with Archer.
Something with myself.
And I know something bad is going to happen.

Cullen’s soft yet strong touch. Watching a scary movie with him. A big bowl of popcorn. Candles lit. Orange lights glowing. The way he looks at me. The way he purposely reaches into the popcorn bowl at the same time I do to make our hands touch.
The way he kisses me…
And then there’s Archer.
