I nod. “I hope she’s okay. I hope she gets help too. Not sure if that kind of thing is allowed for people like us.”

“Birdie is tough,” Maz says. “Mentally tough. And what you did for her means a lot. I’m sorry it freaked me out.”

“You don’t have to be sorry, Maz.”

“Yes, I do. What happened… it’s part of this life.”

“Murder?”

“Revenge,” Maz says.

“Well, if it helps Birdie in any way, it’s worth it.”

Maz nods. “It’s more than just that, Jaci. There’s also-”

The door opens behind me.

I turn and see Birdie.

She’s freshly showered, her hair wet, glasses slightly fogged up, a smile on her face.

It looks like a genuine smile too.

Not that forcedI’m secretly in painsmile.

Somehow that’s supposed to make what happened with Archer and Darby worth it.

Even though I know what’s been done is right, it still irks me.

The rumors of Darby keep floating all over campus too.

And it’s not just us either.

Everyone on campus knows the truth.

From Dean Tahg to the custodian that vacuums the hallways at night.

I take a deep breath. “I’m going for a walk.”

“Just a walk?” Maz asks.

“Not a chance,” Birdie says. “Which one are you going to see?”

“It’s just a walk,” I whisper.

I hurry out of the dorm room and back outside.

I’m not sure Cullen is even back toMakson Ridgeyet.

Probably though.

With the way he rides…

I slip my hands into my hoodie pocket and begin to walk.

I don’t even make it two minutes into the walk before I stop and gasp.
