“Of course it’s true,” Marty says. “Jaci knows that already.”

“Wow, this is getting uncomfortable,” I say.

“She’s still a virgin,” Brie says.

“I am not a virgin,” I say.

“One guy doesn’t really count,” Kae says. “Especially when you consider he-”

“Nope,” I call out. “I’m not doing this again.”

I push against the ground, stand up and start to walk away.

Marty chases me down and jumps in front of me.

“Jaci,” he says, already out of breath. “I didn’t have anything to do with your car. I swear. I know you owe me money. But I would never say anything to my guys. Okay?”

“Then what happens to the money I owe you?”

“I pay it.”

“You cover me?”

Marty nods.

“Why?”

“I like you,” Marty says. “You know that. I know you don’t like me. Because of the drugs and stuff.”

“If you didn’t set my car on fire, who did?” I ask.

“I don’t know,” Marty says.

“Well, maybe it’s a good thing I’m leaving town then. Nobody will track me down atDSC.”

“That’s true,” Marty says. “Think I can get a kiss goodbye?”

I laugh in Marty’s face, then walk away.

He’s been trying to kiss me and get into my panties for a long time.

In reality, I hope I never see him again.

I hope I never see this town ever again either.

Ieasily read the letter ten more times.

It still makes no sense at all.

Fay knocks on my door and pushes it open.

“I’m off to work,” she says.

“Nursing shift?” I ask with a smile.

“All-nighter,” she says. “You’ll be gone when I get home.”

“This doesn’t make sense to me.”
