Chapter 20

The precalc homework that’s been assigned is in the process of slowly killing me when I remember I’ve never gotten back to Ellie today. I scroll back through the texts she’d sent after my last one on Saturday about Beau and his big dick, smiling as I reread them. The first few had come in immediately, and boy, had she fussed at me about leaving her hanging. To be honest, I’d done it on purpose because it amused me. The two of us are used to messing with each other like that.

Ellie:You didn’t just tell me one of the boys you’re living with has a huge cock and then disappear.

Ellie:Holy shit, you did.

Monday she’d checked in again.

Ellie:Are you freaking kidding me right now?

Ellie:Lyla Taylor, you’d better not have forgotten me already.

Then after school today, I’d finally answered her.

Me:Hey. :)

Ellie:That was cruel.

Me:That was funny.

And then I’d let her hang again. I can’t help the little snort that escapes me when I imagine her face. Man, I’m mean sometimes. Time to feed her a little bit more info.

Me: So, what I didn’t tell you is that I was looking around in this guy’s room—Beau.

Ellie:You are such a sneak.

Ellie:He’s the older son?

Me: Yep, he is. I was nervous and wanted to have a look around at their rooms.

Me:Thought maybe it’d give me some insight.

Me:And when I got to Beau’s room, I got an eyeful. I didn’t know he was in his bathroom—and he walked out as naked as the day he was born.

Ellie:Damn. What a welcome.

Me: Right?

Me:Anyway, things have gone all to shit already. It’s a long story.

Ellie:I have time. I don’t even have my best friend here anymore. :(

Me:Okay, okay. I’m getting to know people, and it’s going okay, but I’ve got the team captain ready to claw my eyes out and we haven’t even started practice yet.

Me:She and Beau have… I don’t know what going on.

Ellie:Crap.

Me:And she’s jealous as hell that I’m staying here.

Me:That’s about it.

Me:Oh, and Beau is an excellent kisser.

I laugh to myself as I set my phone down. She’s totally going to kill me for not expanding on that.

A noise from somewhere downstairs catches my attention. A glance at my phone tells me it’s around six, so it’s probably Beau, Micah, and Griffin getting home from school. Their footsteps are heavy as they trudge up the stairs. Must have been a rough practice.
