“Micah? Where are we going?”

“I don’t know.” The hard swallow is visibly painful as it works its way down his throat.

“We can go to my house.” I turn in my seat so I’m partially facing his profile as he drives.

“Really? Do you really think your parents would let me in after everything?”

I take a deep breath and release it slowly. “Your parents are awful. Mine aren’t. They will listen to me, just like they listened when I said I wasn’t leaving Rosehaven.”

Micah’s head whips toward me for a second before turning back to drive. “They were going to make you transfer? Because of me?”

I reach out, grasping his bicep. “No. They thought it would be easier for me with the gossip flying around. I assured them it wouldn’t be. I can face whatever happens at school as long as you’re by my side.”

He groans, shaking his head. “Daph, they have to hate me. Look at all I’ve done to you.”

“No. Look at all you’ve done for me. They know it was you who came to my rescue that day and—” My breath hitches. “They know how I feel about you. They’ll help us.”
