Page 58 of Simon Says… Run

At that, he broke out laughing. “But no food is there either,” he stated, with a chuckle.

“No, but I could have ordered from Mama’s too.”

“Unless she knew it was you, you would have got probably half the amount,” he explained, rolling his eyes.

She looked at the amount of food, snatched the bag from his hand, checked the price, and whistled. “You know that she can’t possibly afford to give everybody this deal.”

“No, she can’t. It’s one of the reasons why I had Harry tip her son very well for the delivery.”

“Did you?”

“Yep. And besides, it’s all good.”

She nodded and dug back in again.

“So, back to the run. Do you think he’ll be there?”

“I hope so,” she said fervently. “This woman seemed to think he was there every second day.”

“Seeing that preplanning and then sticking to a plan, that’s bothersome.”

She nodded. “I know. It is for me too. But, in order to actually see if he’s there and to talk to him, I have to find him. I have no idea if we’re barking up the wrong tree literally,” she quipped, with an eye roll.

“But why would he be so obvious?”

“I don’t know,” she admitted. “It’s just so strange. Although lots of people like to watch sports,” she murmured.

He looked at her in surprise.

She shrugged. “You know that lots of people who can’t do this stuff like to watch others do it.”

“So, like a spectator sport?”

She nodded.

“Is that what this feels like to you?”

“I don’t think so, but we don’t have a bead on this killer at all,” she stated. “It makes no sense.”

“Anything you’re leaning toward?”

“Well, it’s not as if Jenna’s ex-husband has an alibi. So he can’t be written off. But, so far, I don’t know that we have any connection between him and the two newest victims. There is no forensic evidence, so that’s no help. And we’re starting to wonder if this guy is targeting randomly, which makes it more difficult, because it’s just a case of wrong time, wrong place. That’s almost impossible to solve because we have to catch him in the act.”

“But again, this now should be easier, with the same location.”

“Same location but slightly different spot,” she noted.

“Sure, but same location still means an awful lot of distance that this guy is traveling on foot, and people will be looking out for him now.”

“Yes, and that’s another part that I don’t quite get. Why continue to stick to the same location?” she asked.

“The killer must have some reason,” Simon stated. “Something is keeping him there.”

She frowned, as she toyed with the spaghetti on her plate.

“I gather you’re almost full,” he said.

She pushed her plate back ever-so-slightly. “I think I’ll just rest for a little bit. I’ll come back and finish it later.”
