Those were not very clear parameters but it was all they had so far.

"He's clever enough to pre-plan, and to cover his tracks. To be able to film the scene without being there, so that he can see the evidence of his own work."

It was terrifying to think that such an individual was at large in Tamarack County. And since he'd clearly been at work here, busy framing the most recent suspect and setting up the bomb blast scene in the cabin, May guessed he was still in the area. At least, she uneasily suspected he must be, and that they should assume he was.

She turned away from the scene, and looked around at the empty room. A place that had been Sheila's last home on Earth. And which sadly offered them no further clues.

Restlessly, she paced outside the warehouse, thinking furiously of what the next step could be. How did one catch up with such an elusive killer, someone who was not even on the scene when he murdered his victims?

"This is a dead end, I think."

"Agreed. There's nothing more to find here, apart from an insight into his mind, and that he’s probably filming the explosions," Owen said. “That’s worthwhile to know, but it doesn’t get us further. What should we do now, May? The FBI is busy with the latest scene. I don’t think we can be of help there.”

"No, I don’t think they need us. Combing a bomb site is too specialized, and so is tracking down an anonymous email address. But while we’re driving back, let’s look at the other case files and decide on our next step. Now that he’s set off four bombs, that means four different cases to look back on. Maybe we can identify some common threads.”

Owen nodded. "At least it's something we can do," he said disconsolately. May could tell he was discouraged by their lack of progress. So was she, but she was determined not to let the seemingly impossible circumstances get her down. Somewhere, there must be a chink in the killer's armor, a gap that would shed more light onto who he was.

"Let's drive back, and call Sheriff Jack on the way," May decided. "We’ve got an hour’s drive and we might as well make it as productive as we can. If Jack can send us the details of the other cases, and you can have a look at it while I drive, we can decide if there are any loose ends, or any suspects in common, that we should be focusing on more closely."
