"Yes, I guess we'll have to wait."

Even so, despite the frustration, May felt hopeful that this lead might progress the case.

At that moment, they heard quick footsteps outside and both jumped guiltily as Kerry's voice rang out.

"May, are you there?"

May jumped up, scraping her chair back.

"Yes, I'm here." She hoped Kerry wasn’t going to get mad at her for having sneaked away to do some additional research.

"I need to speak to you. Urgently. And in private," she said, with a glance at Owen.

Owen stood up and walked out. May waited, feeling apprehensive, to see what her sister was going to say.
