“I don’t like it,” I panted, struggling to capture a breath.

He paused, arching a brow.

I leaned toward him, nibbling on his bottom lip. “I fucking love it.”

Growling, he tightened his hold on my ass and carried me the few steps to my desk, placing me onto it, my back flush with the surface. He hooked my legs over his shoulders, his pupils dilating as he peered down at me splayed out before him, completely at his mercy.

I was breaking every rule in my book right now.

But nothing had ever felt so right.

“Please, Lachlan… Make me come.”

Nostrils flaring, he drove into me with fever and desperation, each thrust harder and more punishing than the last. When he pressed his thumb against my clit, I detonated around him. Forgetting where I was, I cried out. He covered my mouth with his hand, his motions growing more frenzied until he stilled, then jerked through his own release, collapsing on top of me.

Neither of us moved for several moments, the sound of our breathing filling my office, the only other noises that of a typical office setting — phones ringing, fingers tapping on keyboards, people talking.

“I’m sorry,” Lachlan said.

“For what? Fucking me?” I waggled my brows.

He laughed slightly. “I’ll never apologize for that.” He circled his hips. I could have sworn I felt his erection spring back to life. This man was a machine. “You feel too good to ever be sorry about being inside you.”

“The feeling’s mutual.” I wrapped my legs around his waist, teasing him.

He groaned, kissing me, tongue swiping mine. Then he stepped back and adjusted himself, rebuttoning his pants.

Grabbing a pile of tissues, he cleaned me up and helped me to my feet, holding my panties out before stowing them in his pocket with a smirk.

“Fiend.”

“Maybe.” He winked, running his hands down my arms. “But I am sorry for bursting in here. I get why you want things to stay quiet for now. Just please promise me I don’t have to keep this a secret forever. That’s all I ask, Julia. That someday I can tell the world how bloody amazing you are.”

My heart expanded in my chest, the way this man so easily bared his soul to me invigorating. A breath of fresh air after a lifetime of repression.

I rested my hand against his cheek. “I promise. I just… I need some time. Make sure Imogene fully understands what it means for me to date someone like you. I’m not quite sure she can see the reality through the cloud of excitement just yet.”

“I promise I will do everything I can to protect—” He stopped short.

It didn’t matter. I knew what he was going to say. That he’d do everything in his power to protect me. To protect Imogene.

“This,” he continued. “I will do everything I can to protect this. To protect what we have.” He treated me to that smile that both melted my heart and jumpstarted it at the same time. “And I promise to never barge into your office again.”

I gave him a coy look. “Well, I wouldn’t say never.” I bit my lower lip.

“Oh, no?” His eyes darkened as he curved toward me, lips a breath from mine. “Why’s that?”

“There are some…benefits to having you here.”

“Well then…” His mouth skimmed mine. “Just call, and I’ll happily barge in again.” He sensually rocked his hips against me. “And again. And again.”

I ran my hands through his hair. “You’re going to make me break all my rules, aren’t you?”

“Rules are made to be broken, love.”
