“No way!” Madison says.

I nod. “And evidently it’s one of y’all’s. I mean obviously not yours, Madison.”

“Can y’all stop talking in girl code?” Quinn asks.

“Rory is pregnant with a Crawford kid,” Madison explains.

The siblings look at each other, then march down the hallway to the bathroom.

“Johnny or Hayes?” Quinn demands.

Rory’s sitting and leaning against the tub. She looks up at us. “Who do you think? I can’t believe I was so stupid.”

“Okay, I’ve got this,” Madison says. “You two, clear out. Go home and settle all the things. And I will take care of our little mama here and my niece or nephew she’s growing. I’ll let you know if I need anything,” she adds when I try to speak up. Then she dials her phone and calls some woman named Bonnie and asks her to be in charge of the store that day because she’ll be out sick.

I take one more look at Rory and give her a smile. “It’ll all be okay. Eventually.” Then I glance at Madison. “I’ll see if we can’t find some candied ginger somewhere in town and bring it by. That might help.”

Madison hugs me. “Welcome to the family,” she whispers.

My eyes fill with tears. I had somehow forgotten that if I get Quinn, I get an entire family. A big, loud, crazy family that’s always in each other’s business—I’ve never had that before. Now, I can’t wait.
