chaptertwelve

Quinn

We’re barely outside of Rory’s house when I pick Amber up. She wraps her legs around my waist and I press her to the side of the house and kiss her.

I press our foreheads together.

“I thought you’d left me,” I whisper.

“Never, cowboy. I’m so in love with you, you’re a part of me now. If I ever left, it would destroy me because you’re grafted on my soul now,” she says.

I reach into my front pocket as best I can. “We can get you something different if you want. But Madison reminded me, that since I’m the oldest, this was mine to give.” I hold up the ring. “This was my mama’s ring, I think you would have liked her, and I know she would have loved you.”

“Quinn,” she whispers. Her beautiful eyes are swimming in tears.

“Marry me, angel baby. Put me out of my goddamn misery so I know you’re mine forever and no one else can touch you.”

She grabs my face and kisses me. “Yes, I’ll marry you. But for the record no one else can touch you either. If that skank Eileen comes sniffing around, I might break her nose this time.”

I chuckle. “You came out of nowhere and I wasn’t prepared, but you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I need you to believe that, Amber. I love you, angel. I love you, I love you, I love you.”

“Can I have the ring now?”

I slide it on her finger and it fits perfectly. “Are you always going to be this demanding?”

“Probably.”

“I’m going to spoil you so good.”

“Can we go home and you can do that thing with your tongue again?”

“Gross! Come on, can’t a sister eavesdrop on the romance part without hearing about my brothers’ sex lives?” Madison yells from where she’s pressed against the window next to us.

“Serves you right for being so damn nosy,” I yell back. Then I carry my woman to my truck. And we go home and I do that thing with my tongue. Again and again.
