Chapter Fourteen

Grey was in his office at home when his phone rang. “Warner,” he barked.

“It’s Darian. I have some bad news. The DA wants Emily to come in for questioning.”

“Why?”

“They thought they had enough evidence against Fowler, but his sneaky lawyer is getting a few of the charges thrown out already.”

“Fuck, I was hoping to keep her away from this.”

“I know. But we want the bastard to be put in prison, right?” Darian said.

“Hell yes.” Grey wiped a hand down his face. “Where and when?”

“I can call the DA. Do you have any time today?”

Grey looked at the clock. “Yes. How about three this afternoon?”

“Okay. You’ll have to go to his office.”

“That’s no problem.”

“Call me after to tell me how it goes,” Darian said.

“I will.”

Grey made the arrangements with his people. He wasn’t going to take a chance with Emily, so he was bringing extra guards with them.

About an hour before the meeting, Grey searched for Emily and found her in the solarium off the kitchen, reading a book.

“Hey, baby.”

Emily looked up and smiled. “Hi.”

He sat down on the side of her chaise and set his hand on her leg. “I hate to do this to you, but the DA would like to ask you questions about Fowler.”

Grey squeezed her leg when she paled and stiffened.

“But I … why now?”

“They need more to put him away.”

“Where will you be?” she asked.

“I’ll be right there with you. I promise I won’t leave you, baby.”

She exhaled and nodded. “When do we have to go?”

“Now.” He held his hand out to her. “Be brave.”

“I’ll try.”

Grey got them into the car and held her the whole way to the DA’s office building. Once there, he never let go of her hand. A few of his guards surrounded them as they walked into the building.

He gave the front desk the name of the DA.

“He’s waiting for you. Take the elevator to the second floor, and they’ll have someone there to escort you to his office. You can’t take all these people up with you,” she said.
