“Why?” she asked.

“Because they’re there because you carried my child in your body. It will amaze me for the rest of my life. I know it happens all the time, but it never has for me until you.”

His fingertip continued to caress her breast until Corey finished, and then he watched her snap her bra and pull her t-shirt back on.

“Will he need to go to the bathroom?” he asked.

“Yes.”

“I’ll take him.”

After getting the boy taken care of, the three went into the office off the bedroom. They closed the door to contain Corey and put a blanket and toys down to entertain him.

“Come here, baby,” he said and pulled her down onto his lap.

“Wait, I’m too heavy,” she said.

He snorted. “My briefcase is heavier than you.”

She rolled her eyes but stayed on him.

He pulled up several sites, and they picked a bunch of things for Corey. She tried to argue about it being too much, but he grinned and kept going.

“I want to show you the room I picked for him when he is ready to move into it.”

It was a few doors away on the opposite side of the hallway, a big room with its own bathroom.

“Come look. This is why I think it’s perfect.”

She came to stand beside him, and her mouth dropped open. “Oh, wow.”

There was a small lake about a fourth of a mile away and two beautiful white swans and ducks standing, sitting, or swimming in or around it.

King pointed out the birds and then watched the surprise and excitement on his son’s face.

“I’ll have a fence put around the pond and the swimming pool in the back for safety.”

“You’re doing too much,” she complained.

“No, baby, I’m not. I don’t want you or me to worry he might fall in. Even if he knows how to swim, he could still drown. I think we should consider swimming lessons for him soon.”

She nodded. “You’re right. I would feel better.”

“Hey, don’t you remember that I’m always right?”

She snorted and rolled her eyes, making him laugh.

He glanced at his watch. “Dinner is usually served around six. Will that work okay for Corey?”

“That’s perfect.”

“Let’s go then.” He curled an arm around her waist and led her down the steps and into the dining room.
