Chapter Eight

Skylar

I was still feeling the rush of my first shift as we pulled into the shopping center near Shelly’s. We’d walk the rest of the way instead of parking Xander’s bike in front of our hide out. Shelly’s magic was good, but we still had to take some precautions.

My chest was full, as if I was ready to spill into laughter at any moment. Turns out, spending two nights with a bunch of shifters and running free in the woods was exactly what I needed.

For a while, I was even able to forget about the stone, Clara, and the Vampire queen with a vendetta.

The happy feeling began to dissipate as we crossed the street and stepped into the parking lot in front of Shelly’s. Who knew this place would become so much more than just a place to get stitched up after a hunt went sideways.

“You think they did it?” I whispered.

Xander glanced over at me. “We’re about to find out.”

The place where Shelly’s townhouse should be, wasn’t visible at first. Instead, I was looking at an identical twin to the building on the right. As we drew nearer, a pink shimmer surrounded the building and it transformed into Shelly’s model.

Without her help, we’d be dead already. I was going to have to do something really nice for Shelly if we survived all this. What do you get a mage who keeps stuffed crows and poisonous herbs and body parts in jars?

We reached the door and Xander slowed down, letting me enter first. A rush that felt like cold water washed over me as I crossed the threshold, breaking through the ward.

Xander followed me and closed the door behind us.

Both Elias and David were sitting in the living room. From the looks of it, they’d been trying to ignore each other.

“Looks like it’s been a fun couple of days,” I said.

David grinned as he rose from the couch. He was the first to cross the room and greet me in a rib crushing hug. When he pressed his lips to mine, I welcomed the kiss but did feel a little weird about it in front of the others.

He released me, setting me back down on the ground. Elias was standing near him and as soon as David stepped back, he pulled me in for a hug.

“How was it?” Elias asked.

“You smell a bit like a wet dog,” David said.

Xander growled from behind me.

“In a good way,” David said, holding his hands up in front of him.

I laughed. “Well, I did spend the last couple of evenings running through the woods as a wolf.”

“Congratulations,” Elias said.

“I’ve never been with a wolf before,” David said.

Xander growled again. “Can we not while we’re all here?”

“You’d rather pretend she doesn’t have three mates?” David asked.

“I’d rather keep our business to ourselves,” Xander said.

David shrugged.

“What did I miss?” I changed the subject. “Tell me Madison is okay.”

“She’s better than okay,” David said.

“Well, it’s been a lot for her to process, but we were able to recover her memories,” Elias said.
