I gasp. “You know my mother…”

Faye shakes her head. “I don’t know anything.”

“Faye, come with me.”

“I have to get back in there,” she says. “They’ll all get mad at me.”

“Faye,” I growl. “I can protect you now. Listen to me carefully. I know how to make this work.”

Now I’m thinking like an Heir. I’m a mafia badass bitch. I have a plan.

“You and I can leave right now,” I say. “We steal one of the SUVs and get out of here. Then you tell me who my mother is. We find her. Together. Track her down. I’ll keep you safe and you keep me informed. Deal?”

“Jaci, it doesn’t work that way,” she says. “It never will. I’m already gone. You know what they say about me. I’m dead.”

“You’re not! You’re a nurse!”

Faye smiles. “I wish I was a nurse. You knew all along I was never a nurse. You were always too smart, Jaci.”

“You kept this hell away from me. But not yourself.”

“This is my life. My life is this hell.”

“I’m getting you out of this hell,” I say. “Stand up and come with me. Right now.”

Faye and I stand up.

I open my mouth to tell her the plan again.

What does she do?

She slaps me across the face.

Then runs toward the living room.

Ican’t help it.

I chase after her.

In the living room… it’s a war.

Archer throws a right fist into the biker’s face.

Cullen has the other biker pinned against a wall.

The biker throws punches to Cullen’s ribs.

Seth stands there with the gun, watching.

Faye just wanders into the living room.

She can’t help herself.

But I can.

I can help myself.

I back away, watching the violence ensue.
