Whenthe video was finished playing, Saxton fired off a quick text to Kincaid-I presumed-before sliding his phone back in his pocket. Looking at me, he said, “So, we have proof that she did it, but claiming it was a joke could be believed. Plus, she was quick to absolve August of any involvement.”

“Too quick,” I pointed out.

He nodded.“Yeah, I noticed that, too.”

“I need to find her,” I simply stated.

“Kincaid won’t give her up, Stone,” he said, telling me something I already knew, deep down.

“Istill have to try,” I told him.

“Iknow,” he replied. “Just…honestly, I don’t know what to say. This is all new to me, too.”

“How did that asshole get chosen, Saxton?” I asked. “If we can see it, surely the panel sees it.”

“I’ve wondered that myself.” His jaw ticked. “The only thing I can think of is his seemingly tight friendship with Alexander.”

There wasn’t really much else to say about it. Until we had time to dig further into August Remington, I had to put him on the back burner and fix this shit with Rylee.

“I’m heading over to Kincaid’s,” I told him.

“Ithought you might,” he chuckled. “I’ll text her and tell her you’re on your way.”

“Sothat she can lock the door?”

Saxton’s smile stretchedacross his face. “If you think Kincaid Black is afraid of confrontation, you’re way wrong about her.”

I regarded him as I registered the look on his face and the tone of his voice. “Actually, I think she’s rather dangerous,” I told him truthfully.

Saxton’s grey eyes sparkled with pride. “You have no idea.”

“What’s the deal with you two?”

Saxton didn’t answer for a long minute, and I honestly didn’t think he was going to, but he finally surprised me by saying, “We’ve been best friends since the second grade.”

Surprise flashed across my face. “Seriously?” There was nothing in my PI’s reports about a close friendship between Saxton and Kincaid.

“There’s nota bulletin board in town that advertises the fact, but, yeah, I’m serious.”

“We’ll talk more when my life isn’t fallingapart, yeah?” There was more going on between him and Kincaid than he was letting on, but I didn’t have time to dwell on it right now. I had to get to Rylee.

Saxton just nodded. “Good luck, Lexington.”

“Thanks,” I replied. “I’m going to need it.”

We bothheaded to our cars, and after the background checks I had done on everyone invited to the initiation, I already knew where Kincaid lived, so that hadn’t been an issue. My problem was that I knew Kincaid wasn’t going to give Rylee up, and I didn’t blame her.

The magnitudeof my fuck-up wasn’t lost on me.

Pulling upin front of Kincaid’s building, an empty spot at three in the morning was easy to find. I jogged up the walkway and found her apartment buzzer right away. As soon as I pressed it, I could hear the font lobby doors unlatching open.

I rode theelevator to the sixth floor, and the hallway seemed a mile long as Kincaid’s apartment was the last one at the end of it. Knocking on her door, it swung open instantly.

Staring down at a female too beautiful tobe real, I made a demand I had no right to make. “Tell me where she is, Kincaid.”

“No dice,Stone,” she automatically replied.

“Youknow I’ll find her eventually,” I pointed out.
